Individual accountability is the defining feature
In regulated professions the consequence of a decision attaches to a named person, not to a committee or an institution. That changes what a judgment framework has to do: it has to survive review by a body whose job is to examine the reasoning.
Drift is gradual and rarely noticed from inside
Standards do not usually collapse. They narrow — fewer options considered, less tolerance for ambiguity, faster closure. The people best positioned to notice are rarely the ones it is happening to.
Documented reasoning is the defensible artifact
An outcome can be unlucky. Reasoning is what distinguishes a defensible decision from an indefensible one, and it is what a regulator, an insurer, or a court actually examines.
