Governance
Responsible AI Statement
A company whose stated purpose is protecting human judgment has to be specific about how its own technology could damage it.
Last updated:
Young Ethical Intelligence, Inc. exists because of a risk created by AI: that as these systems become more capable, the people responsible for consequential decisions practise judgment less. Building an AI product against that backdrop carries an obvious hazard — the product could become another instance of the problem.
These principles are the constraints that prevent that. They are design constraints on URIEL, not a values statement.
Principles
Human authority remains primary
The system informs. The person decides. Authority is never transferred to the platform.
No cognitive outsourcing as the design objective
Success is a more practised decision-maker, not a faster answer. A design that increased dependence would be a failed design.
Ethical data governance
Reflective material is among the most sensitive data a person can produce, and is treated accordingly.
Context-sensitive interpretation
Context is lived human reality, not a data field to be normalised away.
Transparency of limits
What the system cannot do is stated as plainly as what it can. This page is written to that standard.
Enterprise security by design
Security is an architectural precondition, not a feature added before procurement review.
Responsible escalation
Where a licensed human professional is required, the correct behaviour is to say so — not to attempt the answer.
Respect for faith, culture, identity, and lived experience
Judgment is formed inside a life. A system that ignores that is not examining judgment at all.
The test we hold ourselves to
A product that made its users more dependent — faster to reach for it, slower to think without it — would be a failedproduct by this company’s own definition, regardless of engagement, retention, or revenue. Engagement is not the objective. A more practised decision-maker is the objective, and those two goals genuinely conflict. We would rather say that out loud than discover it later.
Where a human professional is required
URIEL is not a therapist, not a diagnostic system, and not a medical treatment. It is not a substitute for licensed medical, mental-health, legal, tax, or investment advice. Where a situation calls for a licensed professional, the correct behaviour for the system is to say so plainly rather than attempt an answer. Responsible escalation is a design requirement, not a disclaimer.
Data
Reflective material — how a person thinks, what they fear, how they judge — is among the most sensitive data a human being can produce. It is treated with a governance standard set to match that sensitivity rather than to match what is technically permissible.
Limits of this statement
URIEL is under active development. This statement describes the principles the platform is being built to, and commits the company to them publicly. It does not assert that a finished, audited, third-party-verified system exists today, because it does not. As the platform matures, this statement will be updated to describe what has actually been implemented, and the gap between principle and implementation will be stated rather than smoothed over.
